Keeping Busy on a Rainy Day

Spring is in full bloom and with that comes an abundance of rain. Rain gives us a great excuse to do some spring cleaning, start a new book and even binging that new show you have been wanting to start. However, rain can sometimes be hard for our pets who want nothing more than to get outside and burn some energy. While taking your dog for a walk and playing fetch are great ways to help them release energy, there are plenty of indoor activities that can keep your pet busy even on rainy days.

Here are 5 Ways to Keep Your Pet Busy on Rainy Days

1. Keep it simple with a new approach to mealtime.

Investing in a slow feeder for your pet is not only going to help with digestion, but it is a great way for them to stimulate their brain while they eat.

2. Invest in exercise for the mind.

Training is a great workout for your pet and can sometimes be more of an exercise than going on a walk. Simple obedience training such as sit, stay, come and leave-it are great behaviors to keep your pet sharp. You can even begin to teach your pet some fun ones like spin or rollover.

3. Dust off old toys.

Everybody, including our pets, loves seeing something they haven’t seen in a while. If you have any old toys, even new, tucked away that are safe to play with, go ahead and bust them out. Chew toys such as kongs and bones are great toys to keep your dog busy on any rainy day.

4. Bring out the puzzles.

Is your pet too smart for their own good? Let them try their luck at puzzles. There are so many great dog puzzles available that work great to keep your dog thinking and engaged. They’ll even forget it’s raining outside!

5. Take a well-deserved nap.

While it’s important to keep our pets busy, always remember that everyone can use some well-deserved zzzzz’s. Sometimes the best way to enjoy a rainy day is to just snuggle with your pet and catch up on some much-needed rest! Especially because rest is good for the mind.
