10 Fun Ways to Volunteer

Walking dogs, petting cats and fostering animals are all familiar ways to spend your time helping homeless rescues. However, there are many more unique and fun ways to volunteer and help those who need it most! Here are just 10 of the fun ways you can volunteer and help save lives:

1. Taking Photos of Rescues

This volunteer position allows you to help HSNEGA’s Marketing Team by taking photos of our animals! You can hold a photoshoot to help promote rescues on our website, or even capture some videos of them playing outside for social posts. If you’re artistic and want to help show off a rescue’s most FURbulous side, this position is for you!

2. Landscaping  (Group Activity!)

Landscaping is one volunteer activity that is great for large groups! Gather your friends or coworkers and help make the shelter look as beautiful outside as the rescues do inside by helping with weeding, trimming bushes/trees, planting flowers and more!

3. Education

Want to help educate the public on animal welfare the mission of HSNEGA? Then this is a PAWesome position for you! This volunteer assists the Volunteer Coordinator with various special projects and events related to animal advocacy and education.

4. Slumber PAWty

Rather than volunteering time AT the shelter, sign up to host a Slumber PAWty and volunteer from the comforts of your own home! As part of the foster program, you can take a rescue home for a night or weekend so they can get some much-needed RNR away from their kennel. This helps them reduce stress and can even help their adoptability!

5. Adoption Counseling

Adoption counselors help ensure that each rescue finds their PAWfect match! By volunteering as an adoption counselor, you’ll help facilitate meet and greets, perform cat tests and finalize adoptions before sending a rescue to their FURever home!

6. Healthy Pet Clinic Administration Assistant

Not every volunteer position means interacting with rescues! This clerical position helps HSNEGA’s clinical team schedule appointments, process financial transactions, update patient information and more!

7. Rescue Transport

Becoming a Rescue Transport is great for those who are eager to volunteer, but are unable to dedicate hours to doing so. These important and dedicated volunteers help transport rescues to and from important medical appointments and facilitate rescue pickups from neighboring facilities.

8. Events

These volunteers help with on- and off-site outreach events. Tasks for this position include helping transport rescues to and from events, preparing items to take to the event and promoting HSNEGA and its rescues during the event!

9. Intern Positions

Intern positions are part of HSNEGA’s volunteer program and range from helping our Marketing & Development department with social posts, events and data entry, to assisting our Clinical Team with treatments, surgery prep and cleaning as a veterinary extern.

10. Humane Hero Teen Volunteering

While most volunteer positions are reserved for individuals 18 and up, the Humane Heroes program is great for younger teens who are eager to get involved. Through this program, teen volunteers (age 14 to 17) can help with rescue exercise and socialization, assist with the daily needs of rescues and participate in off-site events.

Do any of these positions sound like a PAWfect match for you?
