Lives Changed: Overcoming the Odds

Clover

Found roaming in a chicken coop and forced to eat chickens to survive, Clover, a sweet male Rottweiler mix, was picked up by a local shelter with severe injuries to both of his front legs. The shelter, lacking the resources for his extensive medical needs, worried he wouldn’t get a second chance. His wounds were later found to contain bullet fragments, and he had a severe bone infection in his front right leg, making him completely unable to bear weight. The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia took him in through their Better Together Georgia Program, where they discovered the full extent of his injuries.

To save his life, Clover’s front right leg had to be amputated. Despite the difficult road to recovery and the likelihood of developing arthritis in his remaining front leg, a compassionate extern at the Humane Society fell in love with him and adopted him, giving him the loving forever home he so deserved.

Patty

Patty, a tiny kitten from our No More Litters program, came to us much smaller and less thriving than her littermates. During her spay surgery, we discovered multiple nodules, a concerning sign that led to her diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis, or FIP.

Once considered a death sentence, FIP now has a successful treatment. Patty was our first cat to receive this groundbreaking care, being treated with a new, expensive antiviral medication. She spent months in the care of her loving foster, Kathleen, who administered her daily medication and provided constant care. Patty’s progress was a testament to her resilience and the dedication of our team. After weeks of treatment, she made a full recovery and was adopted.

Louie

Found with a host of complex medical issues, Louie, a bulldog mix, was transferred to us by a partner shelter that couldn’t meet his needs. Upon intake, our medical team discovered a urethral prolapse that had been previously surgically repaired, a heart murmur, and GI bleeding. A full medical evaluation revealed additional issues, including a torn cruciate ligament, intestinal parasites, and severe anemia.

A generous grant from the 15/10 Foundation allowed us to move forward with a comprehensive treatment plan that included multiple specialized surgeries, advanced diagnostics, and extensive post-operative care. After months of intensive medical treatment and physical therapy, Louie made a full recovery. Now healthy and happy, he has found his loving forever home.
